Introduction
The following privacy policy relates specifically to the Canada Post Borderfree service. To view the full Canada Post privacy policy go to http://www.canadapost.ca/help/privacy-e.asp.
Canada Post Corporation’s goal in providing the Borderfree Service is to introduce you to rewarding shopping experiences. We know you care about how your personal information is managed and we are dedicated to safeguarding your privacy while bringing you new shopping opportunities.
This Privacy Statement describes why and how Canada Post Corporation’s Borderfree Service collects, uses and discloses information about you and how you can manage your participation in our on-going marketing programs. It also explains how we protect the security of your personal information.
The collection, use, disclosure, retention, and disposal of personal information by Canada Post Corporation and its agents in providing the Borderfree Service are done in compliance with the Privacy Act and generally accepted privacy principles.
What information we collect about you
When you respond to a Borderfree direct mail piece or e-mail promotion, we collect your contact information such as name, postal address, email address and language preference. This information allows us to process your catalogue requests or contest entries. We may also collect information about your preferences — the catalogues you are requesting, answers to questions about your interests or the type of merchandise you are looking for.
When you answer a survey, we collect your responses so that we can analyze how we can improve our marketing efforts and provide you with relevant information and offers.
When you redeem a coupon or promotional offer, we collect your contact information and record the offer you are responding to.
When you browse our website, we do not collect personally identifiable information about you. We do use cookies — small text files placed on your browser or hard drive:
- To provide you with a customized online experience
- To allow your computer to be identified when you re-access the site
- To learn which areas of our site are useful and which areas need improvement, by combining the browsing habits of site visitors for anonymous analysis
If you do not want cookies to be stored on your computer, you may set your browser to refuse all cookies. This may slow down your online experience and prevent you from utilizing certain Canada Post Borderfree features. The “help” menu on your browser’s toolbar will tell you how to manage your cookie options.
Canada Post Borderfree may use information from our retailers to help us improve our products and services and to provide you with more relevant information and offers.
When you visit the websites of the retailers showcased by Canada Post Borderfree to browse or shop, or when you purchase directly from one of their catalogues, please be aware that they may collect personally identifiable information about you. This privacy statement does not cover the information practices of those companies. Instead, the retailer’s own Privacy Policy posted on their website applies.
When you make a purchase from a retailer enabled by the Canada Post Borderfree service, the retailer needs to provide us with certain personally identifiable information to enable us to process your order. The use of that information by Canada Post Borderfree is governed by the retailer’s privacy policy and the terms and conditions agreed to by Canadian Customers using the Canada Post Borderfree Service. For example, our online, real time price quote and payment process requires you to give us your shipping and billing addresses and credit card information. This allows us to process and fulfill purchase instructions and to contact you with status updates and service-related information.
How we use the information you provide
Canada Post Borderfree’s goal is to introduce you to retailers that carry products that interest you. We use your personally identifiable information to do this by:
- Notifying retailers to send you the information and catalogues or offers that you specifically request.
- Communicating with you to inform you about special offers, contests or catalogues that may be of interest to you. If you do not wish to receive this type of information from Canada Post Borderfree, click here.
- Measuring, analyzing and improving the effectiveness of our marketing endeavors and our website, and tailoring offers so they are more relevant to you.
- Occasionally, we may provide your name and address (but not your e-mail address) to pre-screened, reputable companies so they can offer you their products or catalogues. If you do not wish to receive this information from other companies, click here.
Marketing to children
Canada Post Borderfree does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under the age of majority without the consent of a parent or guardian.
How we safeguard the security of your personal information
Canada Post Borderfree uses secure socket layer (SSL), Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP), and PGP encryption to protect the transmission of your sensitive information. We also apply other physical, technical and administrative security safeguards to protect its storage. If we use an agent (another company) to help us serve you, the agent is bound by contract and other means to meet our same high standards.
How long do we keep your personal information?
Personally identifiable information you provide is destroyed or made anonymous three years after your last communication with us. Transactions involving the collection of taxes are retained for seven years, as required by applicable federal law.
How to contact us about our privacy practices
If you have any questions, comments or complaints about this privacy policy or wish to access your personally identifiable information, please contact the Canada Post Corporation privacy coordinator, Suzanne Bouchard, at suzanne.bouchard@canadapost.ca.
